The Department Store Sales Nationwide Association has announced its September sales report.
Total net sales in the nation decreased by 3.0% from the previous year, which is a three-month consecutive decline. Due to the typhoon landing twice this time and earthquakes in the eastern part of Hokkaido, stores were closed down and business hours were shortened. The Osaka district was also affected by the typhoon, and it turns out oversea tourists staying in Nagoya and Fukuoka were stranded which changed their accommodation and sightseeing route, therefore, increased the sales by 6.3% achieving 22 consecutive months in growth. For cosmetics and skin care items of the fall, sales increased by 1.8% year-on-year, achieving 42 months of continuous growth. Autumn and winter items fell by 5.4% compared to the previous year, despite temperatures dropping during midterm.
