Global｜Karl Lagerfeld Passes Away, Drawing the Curtain of Life Dedicated to Fashion
More than one local media reported that Karl Lagerfeld died at a hospital in Paris on Feb. 19, aged 85. Though it seemed to be foreshadowing Karl’s absence for the final bow at the show finale of Chanel’s Haute Couture Spring and Summer 2019 on Jan. 22 drawing the curtains to a great loss in the fashion industry.
Karl who started his career as an assistant at Pierre Balmain at the age of 17 in 1950, became the designer of FENDI in 1965 and finally Chanel in 1983 becoming one of the most prominent leaders in fashion of the 20th and 21st century. His contributions to the industry was immeasurable, and as often as always without restraint was suitably given the title of the “Kaiser de la mode.” In response to his death, many memorial articles were seen posted on major fashion medias globally.
There was also an announcement about the successor of Chanel. Until now, the names of Alber Elbaz and Hedi Slimane of former LANVIN have been discussed, however in the end, Karl’s right hand women for 30 years, Virginie Viard was appointed. Virginie Vial appeared as a substitute for Karl during the Chanel show finale.
